Easy fit and set up with the rest of the alarm system. I use ring alongside an existing alarm installation. Good luck to any opportunist, you can’t break wind in the house now without setting off an alarm, good value compared to the alarm suppliers out there.

One disaster and it’s personal to me, I used to love to sneak in the house and scare the living daylights out of my wife. Combined with the chime, that little bit of fun in my life is completely gone.

Looking for a ring sticker now for the baseball bat by my bed, and one for the shotgun cabinet, just to finish the security offer.

Needs the Base Sensor to work

I have a door sensor already which works well. But I have been moving all of my security bits and bobs to Ring as I really like their stuff. It just works and is very good.
However, what surprised me (and I admit it does say it in the blurb) is that you have to have the alarm base station for it to work. All I wanted really was a notification to my phone / ring app when it goes off and potential then to trigger something via Alexa; however, it cannot do this. Seems a very basic feature when compared with my existing sensor which I am still using.

We have now upgraded two of our properties with the Ring alarm, obviously we’re re very pleased. Its modular, of high quality and the app is very user friendly. Given all its features I find the Ring components attractively priced.
These battery-powered 2nd generation contact sensors are quite slick, smaller and more stylish than the traditional bulky, shiny white plastic sensors we had before.
I’ve installed quite a few by now and can tell from experience that they are quite versatile. Of course they look best on a modern door or window that closes without falling deep in its frame. However I had to install the sensors as well in different settings and on some older crooked doors - as long as both parts of the sensor are a few cm in reach of each other it should work i.e. there can be a gap between both parts and/or you can install them in an angular manner.
I prefer to fix them with little plugs and screws (not included) so that I can remove the device when the door or wall gets redecorated. But the double sided glue tape on the back does the job just as well.
So the installation, and set up in the app doesn’t require any tools and could take you less than two minutes, provided you have your base station in place.
