How customer reviews and ratings work

Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings, help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.

To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyses reviews to verify trustworthiness.

4.0 out of 5 starsREADME concerning power supply / white wires note
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 23 February 2023
So firstly wanted to specifically review but also state how to install the additional mains plug in adapter. As you may already know, installation videos show a black negative and positive red wire, but it seems the UK version has both wires showing as white. According to ring the negative wire has a small Ridge along the outside, at first glance you cannot see the ridge but up close you can just about make out the ridge. Please see attached photos there is a very thin ridge line along the negative wire, once found this I simply marked it with a black pen, ring should have simply kept a red and black wire or indicate with a plus or minus on the white wiring. Tested before going up a ladder and all works fine with the dusk to dawn feature. Pushing the wires through the rubber seal in the siren was also a struggle, I managed this by pushing the metal prongs gently with a small screwdriver.

3.0 out of 5 starsIt's ok
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 1 January 2023
I find the look of it fine and cleaner than many other options. The sound level is ok too.
Overall I adore the ring system but I do think that this item could be better, here are my reasons and you will see they do centre around having the logo lit at night which I feel is essential as a deterent:
- the screw underneath to fix to the back plate is really fiddly if you lean out a window to tighten / loosen. I have taken to just leaving this unscrewed for my own safety :/
- does not come with transformer (sold seperately) so runs off 3x D batteries (included). Options like having the Ring logo light up are not available without secondary power
- adding the rechargeable battery allows the logo to be lit but it drains fast requiring regular removal of siren to recharge the battery (approx every 5 weeks)
- removal of rechargeable battery to charge requires removal of 3 tiny screws which will eventually wear and not work... this could easily be better designed eg. Like with the cameras.
Love the other items in the Ring setup, the app and the customisation... you are stuck with needing this item to go with it unfortunately.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best to hardwire & volume a bit low
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 15 March 2023

Made the effort to hardwire this so never have to change the batteries. Wish in night mode you could just get the unit to glow rather than just have an illuminated RING logo which looks as bit pants and more like an advert. Volume is a little low even when turned up to full but it works perfectly and no false alarms to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality piece of kit

Have to give credit share due. From the quality of the packaging, the build quality snd simplicity of everything including thd App clearly showed this is a well designed and good product.
May be a bit dearer than some alternatives but entirely happy it and feel like I've got what I've paid for. The settings and options in the App, including history and status are comprehensive and they seem to have thought of everything.
Only one minor gripe. The App requires minimal Andoid version 10 software and my reliable old Samsung S7 Only ran on V9 dk ended ip changing the phone. Was probably overdue but beware as it was an unplanned expense.

Well impressed with this siren only snag is the hardwire doesn’t say positive or negative when wiring, hard to swap wires around

This is a great piece of kit, hardwired, battery you name it. It has bright lights when the alarm activates, literally nobody can miss this.
I have it hardwired and releasable battery, along with D batteries, so covered in all areas. Don’t bother with just batteries because the RING logo light will only last 3 weeks, get it hardwired with the 2nd gen wire plug.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this if you have an old hard wired alarm
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 15 June 2022

I have successfully wired this siren (and the Ring keypad too) to be permanently hard wired using the existing cables to my old hard wired alarm - with only moderate DIY experience.

Firstly, don’t mess around with wiring if in any doubt. However I found this to be a very simple job I could carry out safely in my own home.

Basically I removed the old keypad and the old siren, not that carefully either just snipped the wires. I do have a simple cheap electrical tester kit which can give a voltage reading.

Both devices had multi-coloured wires feeding them for all the various communication. Loads of wires- but don’t be put off. Among the coloured wires were red and black. I simply stripped these back (very thin and obviously low voltage but I turned the power off anyway) and then when turning the power back on and testing them, found them to be 12.7v. Perfect for the Siren. So I simply stuck those wires into the terminals and it worked straight away. I just snipped the ends of all the other colours and taped them up just in case they’re ever needed.

For interest, the keypad requires lower voltage. 5v I think. And it doesn’t have wiring terminals, just a micro USB. However I searched on Amazon for a ‘12v to micro USB’ adapter and for about £8 I got a really small little gizmo. Existing wires just wago connector/choc block onto the adapter wires, and then there’s a micro usb. Luckily I had a space behind the plasterboard to shove it all into. I had to use a Stanley knife to trim some of the plastic moulding off the USB plug to get it into the tight spot on the back of the key pad, but managed eventually.

Now the siren and keypad are fully wired with battery backup.

I recommend investing in a voltage tester if you think about trying this job and test your wires carefully to avoid injury, or damage to the product.

As for the alarm- it’s absolutely great. Love it.
