Edit: 14/01/23 - I’ve used this for a while now and have been problem free aside from the service issue stated in my first review below. I realised my BT fibre was provided internally to the house so decided to change my Eero settings to PPOE and add BT user details along with a different DNS - This works perfect and allows me to assign static IP’s and take full control rather than using my BT hub as a bridge/NAT, even things like opening ports for the Xbox to have an open NAT etc work great.

The only other update I have is that there is a new feature to stop the roaming between hubs, whilst this can help with things like ring cameras which sometimes swap to a further away box it doesn’t let you assign or tell devices which one to use so seems counter productive, if they update to enable this feature to be smarter then I’d say it could be very useful. Overall I get the full 550mb I pay to the main box and the other two across the house in far corners still pump out 440+ of this speed which is perfect compared to what I was getting on a normal BT wifi single hub (40-80 at best).

Original review:
I ran with a BT wifi in a 4 bedroom house, the corner of the living room and outdoor ring cameras used to get intermittent connections and ring cameras were unavailable when uploading recordings/alerts..

Installing a 3 pack of these one next to the router, one in a room upstairs and one in the living room all mesh connected via wifi has turned my signal into a dream.

Cameras all upload instantly and are fully available during recordings, the Xbox in the living room went from 80mb to 400mb (500mb internet line) connection wifi speeds and the management features on the app for eero works well.

The only reason I took a star off is: the eero app service is external, so when they had an issue I logged on my app and it said it was all offline so I assumed there was an issue.

I noticed my wifi was working fine though, long story short I messed restarting boxes and an hour wasted figuring out if there was an issue but the wifi worked so I left it alone. Many google searches later enlightened me to the external eero service that I’d they have an issue you can use the app, which is pretty poor although it’s happened only once in 2 month so it’s no concern for me really just not happy with the waste of time :)

2.0 out of 5 starsFast reliable mesh network built using on WIFI 6, but extensive nagware/paywall blocker
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 19 January 2023
I first bought the 3 pack for around £350 in the summer 2022 sale Amazon has prime day I think it's called. Then I needed another (4th) device to install in my garage to add to the network because I am modernizing it and the signal from the house did not reach the garage. The garage is about 12 metres from the house. So I bought a 4th eero in the black Friday sale for around £110 normally an eye wateringly expensive ~£220 each!

Do note this is a mesh network, it cannot act as a modem, you still need a modem to connect to your ISP - at least with the 6+ units I have.

So far so good. The good things about this device:

- Easy to install and setup
- Simple control from the eero app, you can control everything, network updates, adding new devices, viewing and managing who is connected, basic level of bandwidth management - more on this later
- You have a simple indicator that tells you if the device has outbound internet connectivity, simple but very effective. Red means no connectivity, white means connected so a quick glance determines if there is any problems or not. If installed in the bedroom you can turn this lamp off entirely
- There is a single RJ45 socket on the back on the primary device, they call this generally the gateway. But it's possible to have more with the RJ45 ports if you buy additional units, why they didn't just include RJ45 ports on every device is a mystery
- It has a zigbee gateway built into it for low-powered devices like temp sensors, humidity sensors etc. this is an awesome addition. I have not yet used this I hope it works with out the paywall feature (more on this in the later section)
- The network backup feature is good, this allows eero to use another line via WIFI should your primary ISP go down/fail. This is behind the paywall feature though! :(

The cons or not so good stuff hence the 2 stars

Given I have spent close to £550 for 4 eero devices, normally this would have been around £800, why then are so many features locked down/inaccessible?? If you want to do any level of basic management on your network, for example look at the traffic for last week, or see what your kids have been up to, you get nagware in the app. The app will constantly ask you to subscribe to the eero plus service at a cost of £99 per year subscription. It doesn't mention this on the listing for the unit. This should have been absolutely clear if it was I would have chosen a Netgear. So instead I can get an aggregate level of information from my modem - which is free! lol So this really lets the device down imo pure greed locking out features after a customer has spent considerable ££ on it.

Other things you can't do without eero plus, ad blocking, content filters, monthly data reports so I can see what my kids have been up to, blocked apps etc. Some of these features I have enabled at the modem level but this is complex to manage because I have to identify a connected device by MAC address, this is not practical.

Shame on Amazon, this is nothing short of greed, many of these features I have with my modem why have a paywall ??

So until they change this I would recommend looking elsewhere if you want a mesh network.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very impressive improvement in WiFi

I had a bit of trouble connecting - seems the Bluetooth on some phones doesn't connect but my wife's phone is more basic and connected fine. Once I'd worked that out, the units were very easy and quick to connect, and they set themselves up.
Once set up, items which had been connected to the old WiFi quickly changed to the eero (the app shows which client is connected to what), because I'd used the same WiFi credentials so I didn't have to change anything in the client. Very useful because there are so many clients in a smart home.
Speeds are very close to the maximum my satellite runs at - almost no loss of speed for using WiFi instead of wiring. And with 75 clients per hub, I think I can automate a bit more (some smart home manufacturers connect every light bulb independently to the WiFi)
Lots of money, but pays for itself in reduced hassle

Have just upgraded my internet from BT complete Wi-Fi to Giganet. Giganet provided me with an eero pro6e router. I purchased the 3 extenders as I have a larger house with 4 kids all with gaming consoles. It’s early days but the kids have noticed an improved gaming experience since switching and the ease of setup was so helpful! I’d highly recommend this set up.

I integrated this with 2 eero 6+ and 1 original eero. The Pro is the gateway and it all works wonderfully. I have 500 mb/s broadband and the WiFi close to the pro is not far off that. Even in other rooms served by the satellites the speed is over 300. Even in the garage and workshop served by the older original eero the speed is almost 200. I like how you can mix different models of eero’s. I have contacted eero support in the past and had good experience.

Amazon eero Pro 6 tri-band mesh Wi-Fi 6 system | with built-in ZigBee smart home hub | 1 unit

I just upgraded my internet from ADSL to FTTP, so my usual 39MBs download speeds were increased to 520Mbs, a crazy increase but my ISP only supplied one router, the Eero Pro 6 which isn't a problem for most households as this is a powerful dude. My router is positioned in the hallway and I'm enjoying super fast speeds downstairs and on the 1st floor, unfortunately, my house has two floors and when I ventured to the top floor my WiFi signal was intermittent if at all working.

MY options were limited, I could've run an ethernet cable from my switch, positioned next to the router, all the way to the 2nd floor and then used some cheap WiFi extender but I'd loose the benefits of the Eero abilities doing this. So I opted to buy another Eero Pro 6 and I was very shocked at how much they cost, over £200! In any case, I needed reliable WiFi so purchased the thing and due to the fact it has 2 ethernet sockets I can connect another switch up and attach all my non-WiFi devices as I have an office positioned on the top floor.

This arrives in a fancy box and so it should for the price of the thing. I had already downloaded the Eero App for use with the main router. I simply positioned the Eero on my desk, plugged it in and loaded up the App. The procedure for connecting this to my existing network was as follows:

⚙️1. Tap on 'Add Eero Device'
⚙️2. Once found, name the Eero device, I called it 'Office'
⚙️3. App updates the software in the Eero
⚙️4. The blue LED light on the Eero turns to white
⚙️5. Job done, time to make a nice coffee.

Now that's very easy indeed, I was expecting the App to say that the Eero was too far away from my main router because my mobile and tablet can't get a signal in the office.

I proceeded to do a speed test and achieved 210Mbs download and 68Mbs upload. That's very fast considering my devices couldn't pick up any WiFi initially.

I've now attached the Eero to a switch and every device is ticking over very nicely.

So obviously this Eero not only acts as a router for FTTP but also extends the WiFi signal to all other Eero devices. I'm thinking of connecting my office Eero directly to the switch in the hallway with an ethernet cable now which in theory would give me near enough the 500Mbs download speeds but this isn't something I shall do in a hurry because 210MBs is quite sufficient for my needs.

What I have noticed is that when I go upstairs, my WiFi signal strength bar starts dropping slowly then as I'm about to go to the 2nd floor the signal goes straight back to full strength, hence the mesh system is working just fine.

Overall, a good product and excellent App but it's just so darn expensive.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars (Updated) Better than Asus ZenWifi XT8

Updated:

Still super happy, been flawless so far. Wired download hovers around 945mb and upload around 110mb. Wireless speed depends on distance and client, with an AX MIMOx2 client (m1 macbook air) i get connection at 1200mbps in the same room and real world ~800mbps throughput when in the same room as an access point. At the bottom of the garden (25m + conservatory + brick & block wall in direct line of sight) i get connection at 420mbps and realworld throughput of around 300mbps.

Wireless is noticeably more reliable than previous BT wholehome AC kit and incomparably better than Asus ZenWifi XT8. This really is the killer feature for me rather than the excellent speed. I wouldn’t notice a 500mbps massively slower speed in regular usage but i would notice every single little glitch for a fraction of a second. There have been no glitches with the eero, glitches happened a few times per month with bt wholehome and glitches happened every hour or two with zenwifi xt8.

Original:

I did a ton of research and learned that basically the best AX wifi system is the Asus Zenwifi XT8. So i bought a 2 unit pack. I configured them with a WIRED cat6 backhaul and was pretty disappointed with the connect speeds (struggled to get full 2x2 AX 1200mbps even sat 5ft away. My nest cameras kept dropping off the network. Trailing through the logs there was a specific issue coming up, turns out Asus have had that wifi issue for years across several AX wifi products. Anyway, with the guidance of some expert enthusiast users on the asus forums, i reconfigured everything, splitting the 2x 5Ghz bands, moving the 2.4ghz to be its own, changing a whole bunch of settings in the process. Net result? I could get more reliable full speed AX for slightly further distances, but still in the same room, but nothing could be done about about the devices affected by the asus wifi beacon issue. So i returned them.

Now the eero pro 6 i’d previously discounted because in various publications, the wifi speed test results were up to 80mbps slower than the xt8. Also it got slated for being called Pro and yet being completely lacking in features.

One thing stand out to me, the cpu and memory in the eero pro 6 were both larger than the competition.

Anyway, i decided i wanted reliable and every review i could find praised eero for reliability. I have to say, setup couldn’t be easier. The user experience is excellent - even down too silly little things like the app keeps your phone screen on while you’re fishing a cable through behind the tv for 5 mins. Nice touch!

Setup was easy. There’s basically no features in the app - i could set custom ipv4 and ipv6 dns (cloudflare). I could configure Ad blocking. I could set usage schedules but i have no use for that. And i think that’s about all the features.

However, the wifi in my case is FASTER than the xt8, I can get full 1200mbps 2x2 AX in the next room (it drops to 848mbps pretty easily at that distance right enough).

I wish i had ignored the internet and just bought this to begin with.

Now I’m considering replacing my hue bridge with the zigbee feature on these. Now that is a silly idea tempting fate but I’m tempted to try it because I’ma sucker for punishment it seems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic router

Was looking for a router with Wi-Fi 6 and started to read up on the Eero devices.

The device not only looks great, but functions extremely well too, and when it comes to upgrading you can repurpose your old device as a mesh point.

I’m getting some great speeds through out the house, not this is a 3 bedroom terraced house in the UK and I only have the one router.

Now to the app, the app is pretty nice to use compared to others I’ve used. It’s simple and easy. Would be nice to have a web interface, but there you go but not required.

So far I’ve only found one issue with the Eero solutions and that is some basic features are behind a pay wall.

Definitely would recommend the eero devices.
