Purchased to replace a Virgin Media Hub 3(500mbps connection), which in an old tenement building really struggled to get good Wi-Fi outside of the living-room it was located in. Struggled with regular work from home video call cutouts, and mobile devices dropping wi-fi signal in any rooms that were more than 1 wall away from the Virgin router.
Is the Eero better, yes, but I did expect a bit more. In the same room as the router, Virgin could pull 325-380mbps over wifi to Apple devices and game consoles. The Eero can pull 420-480mbps. In spots of the flat that I got medium/low Wi-Fi coverage in, 50-100mbps but occasional dropped connection with Virgin, the Eero can do 200-350mbps. However in the further reaches of the flat(2 walls or more) where Virgin would give 5-10mbps or drop most times, I can get 80-200mbps with only very occasional drops.
So for sure improvements, and you don't have to think is your device connected to Wi-Fi or not when in the flat. But I did expect slightly more range or more speed stability in the outer reaches of the flat for the price I paid (£142) but maybe my expectations were too high.
I will say as some others have noted, speeds do steady out only after 24-48h of having the Eero setup. The first day speeds were poor, and not vastly different to the Virgin Hub, but after a day they were much better/what they are not, and noted above.
My Eero did suddenly die however only a week after setup. No power to the device and the LED would not come back on. I work in IT so decided to try another power supply(A spare Apple one with the same wattage) and the Eero did come back to life with the new power supply. I was at home when the eero died, and there were no power cuts, electrical issues, or other devices or power strips in use that suffered any issue. Never had a power supply fail on any electrical device of mine, very odd to have it happen only a week into use.
Eero support was very helpful but getting a new power supply shipped to me has taken ages/still not received it. I had to exchange the eero through amazon ultimately, but let's see how long the power supply and eero will last. Would hope to get at least 5+ years.
