5.0 out of 5 starsA very curious and attractive Alexa device.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 20 February 2023
It is expensive in price and initially it clashes aesthetically a bit, but the truth, at least in my case, is that I have ended up falling in love with it.
It is efficient and fast, with good image and sound quality. Very correct and usable regarding AI image tracking through your camera. Its real 360 fluid rotation of the screen is a positive point and something that makes it different.

Its integration with the Alexa assistant is good and quite complete. It is ideal and I have it that way, to be complemented communicatively with one or more Echo Show 8.

What annoys me a bit and they should modify it, is that in the function of showing you a live image from another device, it removes a complete upper third of the image because it superimposes a solid continuous sign warning you about privacy issues (it should in in any case occupy at most only a small corner).

Yes, I like it and it is practical, as in the Echo Show 8 2dG, that its AI image tracking in video conferencing is capable of following the person both with intelligent zoom (thanks to the capture on a 13Mpx sensor) and also in the Echo Show 10 with physical screen rotation.

Yes, perhaps it should also implement additional functionality to be able to manage and direct that turning and direction of the screen and its camera at its own will.

And it would also be a valuable improvement in a future model, if this automatic physical movement could also be carried out (even if only a few degrees) vertically. Now it does, but only in a totally manual mechanical physical way.

At its simplest, it's Alexa with a screen. The screen follows you around the room which is great, you never get an uninterrupted view of the few things that you can watch (Prime and Netflix - oh and Red Bull TV [whatever that is] if you have a subscription). It would be better if Disney+ and iPlayer were available too.
You can use the Internet (Silk) which allows you to watch iPlayer and YouTube extra but it's clumsy and hard to use and doesn't respond to voice commands.
If you tap too quickly it crashes. I tried to share my music streaming on all devices, which is a simple enough voice command, the older Echos I have do it, and it crashed. I tried doing it through the options on the screen, it crashed.
You can have BBC GoodFood which is fantastic but you can't see the recipe, it's read out to you. Pointless when you have a 10 inch screen that follows you around your kitchen.
It's a very expensive Echo that has the advantage of letting you spy on the people in the room through the app and accessing your Ring/Tapo devices which saves you a few taps on your phone.

I received one of these yesterday and my immediate thought is that a simple Smiley face screensaver/wallpaper that is animated to match the speech would go a long way to making this item more welcome in peoples homes. Or even a Max Headroom type Avatar representing Alexa but personally I think a simple cartoon face would suit it better

5.0 out of 5 stars The Show 10 is probably the best Echo ever
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 1 March 2021
Colour Name: Charcoal FabricStyle Name: Echo Show 10Verified Purchase
It’s here-the new Echo Pub Till!

Not really, it’s the Echo Show 10, Amazon’s latest model in the Echo Show range of smart home assistants, featuring Alexa and some new features.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS
———————————-
Looking like the offspring of a regular Echo device and a Fire tablet, the Show 10 looms over its other siblings (see photo with Echo Dot for size comparison) and is clearly designed to be the centre of your smart home.
Amazon’s obsession with white power cables for every device, regardless of its colour, continues here (I own the charcoal fabric version) which isn’t a major problem but you do have to wonder at this particular decision.
The unit is reassuringly weighty so it sits firmly on a flat surface and there’s no danger of it falling over if knocked. The screen is a 10” HD display which is big enough for comfortable viewing and video calling. As everyone reading this probably knows, the screen rotates to track you while you’re video calling (or following a recipe) so you’ll always appear in-frame. The 13 MP camera can pan and zoom and you can make video calls to anyone who has the Alexa app, an Echo Show or Skype.
The controls for the Show 10 are on the top edge including a switch to close the camera to ensure privacy.
The device is very well-made and looks superb.

PERFORMANCE
—————————
The Show 10 works just like other Echos and has all the features we know and love.
Setup is all done on-screen and is just a matter of selecting your Wi-fi network on screen and logging in to your Amazon account. As I already have Echo devices, this was easy for me but if you’re an Alexa newbie then setup is very easy. With the added display, all smart home requests are shown on-screen and you can control lights & plugs etc from there as well as via voice or app.
Next I played some of my Amazon Music HD playlists through the Show 10. I’m very keen on streaming music and regularly listen on my Echo Plus which is an excellent speaker for music. The Show 10 will be replacing the Plus’ duties in my living room so I’m happy to report that it’s music playback quality is superb. It has the perfect mix of clarity and bass and coped well with various genres of music. It has the ability to go pretty loud if necessary but you’ll probably never need to as it provides excellent listening at around volume 3. I haven’t tried Spotify yet but it’s pretty good on my Echo Plus so the Show 10 should be no different.
Films/TV shows on Prime & Netflix are crystal clear and vibrant, the interface positive and fast.
The most important new feature is the motion tracking screen, which will follow your movements while video calling, following a recipe or enable you to look around the room where your Show 10 is positioned while you’re away from the house. The latter is controlled via the Alexa app, and is how I tested the motion tracking. The movement of the screen is smooth, virtually silent and goes almost all the way around on its axis; not quite 360 degrees, but it will turn to “12:30” both ways if you imagine a clock face. [NB - the screen itself doesn’t move. The whole unit revolves on its base]. Upon setup there is a mode to go through where you can preview the full motion to make sure you have enough room. You can also calibrate the position the unit will be in during its “idle” mode. A full range of options to control the movement can be found in the settings.
A couple of things to note -
The Show 10 will track your movements even if you’re not calling someone. This can be disabled by closing the camera switch.
The motion tracking will be disabled if there is insufficient light in the room it’s in.
The Show 10 also includes the all-important Zigbee hub to control your lights etc so no need for an external hub. I have had no problems controlling my bulbs and plugs. I also ran through my existing smart home routines and the Show 10 performed them all faultlessly.

ALEXA
————-
It has been widely reported that previous Show models have suffered from a less-than attentive Alexa. This was probably due to the speakers being so much smaller than on a regular Echo. With such a large speaker on the Show 10 (it’s basically an Echo with a Fire tablet attached) you’d expect Alexa’s hearing problems to clear up.
My benchmark test for Alexa response is the fact that my Echo Plus in the lounge could easily hear me from upstairs, both while playing music and not. I tested both scenarios and the Show 10 passed each one with flying colours. Most problems with responsiveness are usually solved by going through the “voice profile” setup, but you shouldn’t have any with the Show 10.

CONS
———-
I haven’t yet found any faults with it, to be honest, but I suppose the main strike against the Show 10 at the moment is the price tag which makes it the most expensive Echo model. But does it justify this price tag ? For me it does, although a discounted price in the future certainly wouldn’t hurt.

VERDICT
—————-
On the whole I’m very impressed with the Show 10. The sound is excellent, Alexa is responsive under all conditions and the screen is clear, bright and vibrant. It can handle all my routines and playlists and the motion tracking is as good as I hoped.
Its natural home is probably the kitchen where you can use it to follow recipes if you’re not a rubbish cook like me, or watch Netflix or Prime Video while cooking. But it would be equally suitable in the bedroom for those late night Netflix binges! If you don’t have Netflix or Prime Video in your main television then the Show 10 could easily fulfil those duties in the lounge if you don’t mind the smaller screen.
Even in the short time I’ve had it, I feel the Echo Show 10 is the best Echo device yet. It combines the best of Echo smart home control with the entertainment features of a Show screen. Compared to the other Show models, it’s faster, more responsive and has better sound. If you want to upgrade to some serious smart home hardware then it’s worth every penny, but if you’re happy with your current Echo or Show or you’re shopping for your first Echo device, I’d wait for the sales.

Thank you for reading my review.

I haven't yet gone to settings to get things as I want them, but there's a good punchy clear speaker, bright and very clear screen.
Motion detection is a nice touch so screen follows you,as to how good this works will depend where you put it.
I consider this to be a worthwhile buy,but it is very pricey!

4.0 out of 5 stars Echo Show 10 3rd Gen Totally fantastic and a bit rubbish
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 18 December 2021
Colour Name: Charcoal FabricStyle Name: Echo Show 10Verified Purchase
Wow an Amazon Echo that moves, should be fantastic right. Well in many respects it is, but they really have let this horse out of the stable before it can run.
There are some great features:
Much improved screen resolution compared to the Show 10 2nd Gen.
Comparable or slightly better sound compared to the Show 10.
That's about it for the better features.
Oh nearly forgot, the camera is a lot better.
Most features are about the same as on the previous echo show 10.
However, the headline feature, the movement is a massive let down.
I have now tried this in 2 locations and have had issues in both.
I find that sometimes it turns all the way to it's rear most position for no apparent reason. I think it may be ashamed of itself??
It tracks very erratically. I was on a video call yesterday and instead of smoothly tracking me (I was sat down at the time) it was moving around like a drunk trying to sit on a bar stool.

I get the impression that both specific location and light levels effect the movement massively. And before you say it Amazon, no we should not have to contact you for technical support. This is a mainstream product that most people should be able to use with ease, not require a degree to calibrate correctly.

Now for the camera position, who thought it would be a great idea to put it in the corner of the display???
What were they consuming on that particular day? When tracking the entire screen looks over my left shoulder. I think it may be seeing ghost's??? Or perhaps it simply cannot line up easily as the camera is mounted on the right of the screen?

Low light, oh dear "expletive". In normal evening light (where you and I can see clearly) you lose the movement all together. Did they only test this in a lab with super bright lighting. Didn't anyone take it home to test???

You can also use it for a remote security camera. Great eh? Well only if the room is super well lit and the unit is not in Do Not Disturb mode. Ahhhhh, What is going on. I have 2 other Pan and Tilt cameras (not made by Amazon) and these can move it total darkness. So why do I need 10,000 lumens to operate this camera????

I have another big bug bare. I have this Echo show in my living room and I have the new Show 15 in my kitchen. The closest Echo should respond to you, when they are both set as Alexa. When I am next to the living room Echo the kitchen Echo responds virtually all the time. I have now had to rename my kitchen echo show to "echo" to prevent some serious echo abuse! They are approx. 6 metres apart and this even happens when the kitchen door is closed.

So what do I think and would I buy another? Well if you ignore the movement side of things then this is a great Echo Show. The screen is great and you can really see the difference when the show 10 2nd gen and 3rd gen are next to each other. But the movement side of things is so poor that I am considering sending mine back.

If you already have an Echo Show 10 second gen I would not upgrade. If you are looking at a totally new large echo show then maybe it is worth it, but I would also consider the show 15 if lots of base is not important to you.

So my message to Amazon is fix the issue with the movement issues then this will be a great addition to a smart home, as it is I would recommend either the Echo show 10 2nd gen or the new Show 15, which I am very impressed with.

I brought this to replace my aging digital picture frame - for the money and competition, you get a lot more for your money buying this than a standard frame in my view. I am not going to write war and peace but did everything shown in the content, very happy - the only issue is the blink doorbell connection is a nightmare - works one day and doesn't another - but I put this to blink not the unit - and very poor customer service from amazon tech team - 4 hours (about 12 people) and nothing - went to youtube and got a 5 min video on how to set it up - this is shocking for Amazon service.

I’ve used this for around a week and initially I thought it was very good, screen tracking is great unless the room isn’t well lit. I’m impressed with the sound quality, the touch screen is a little sluggish but it isn’t a top of the range iPad etc it’s an echo. I purchased this specifically for the ring cam to come through into the living room and also to use as a home security being able to view the camera when not in, this in particular I’m very let down by, it rarely works and for the past 3-4 days it simply says it’s not available I’ve tried everything from resetting it, disconnecting and reconnecting from the Wi-Fi, turning off an on, all the settings I can think off but it simply no longer works! I’m really let down but this aspect as it basically was the reason I purchased. I’m hoping it was again work but it’s really frustrating having a piece of tech that won’t do what I paid for it to do and what it so proudly advertised.. I’ve since found out on Google this is a common issue with the device, so if you like me are purchasing it for this particular reason, I’d definitely reconsider.
