5.0 out of 5 starsvery reliable security camera system worth considering (and latest EDIT)
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 14 October 2020
We have been using this now for about a month. So here is our thoughts on this product.

setup: Setup is pretty easy took about 30 minutes. Maybe the odd question was worded a bit weird, even rebooted for a firmware update -- but top marks on this. installing the cameras is super simple, except they dont have an angled or ceiling mount for some reason. Again didnt bother us but you might need to jerryrig a solution there.

Cameras: in the pack is 2 cameras. The charge is supposed to last i believe 6 months. that i think is pretty wishful thinking on the part of Eufy. we fully charged the cameras (as requested in the installation) and it has dropped 1 pip on the battery bar in one month. Keep in mind our cameras are in the most heavily trafficked areas (front and back door) so they are pretty much pinging all day. i would guess charge every 3 months ( i will post here on first mandated recharge). only other possible concern might be the distance the camera could be from the base station. if you had a house with a lot of thick walls and long distances you might have an issue with camera connecting, but thats me guessing.

Motion Detection: we have set the person setting on, ie only record when a person was moving. Well maybe where we live cats look like people because we have one cat in particular, religiously setting this off at 4am every night. Could i reduce a star for that, well yeah, but does anyone seriously believe all that, i certainly didnt. i am sure it does work, just not in the way i thought. it can pick up faces which is very interesting, that does work surprisingly well. It is also good on identifying motion, that particular cat is on the extreme side of the motion area and it always catches the movement. One other small quirk i noticed, in night vision mode it doesnt sense a motion activated light that goes on and technically should switch off the night vision, not a big issue but perhaps an update will fix small issues like this.

Performance (movement to phone alert): this is where i have to say the system is pretty impressive. it takes around 5-6ish seconds to receive a notification. we have a pretty bog standard driveway ( 2 cars almost fit) and from the time i am in the catchment area of the camera to hitting the front step -- i receive a notification. we did try the press to talk function. it works fairly well, voice is a bit tinny sounding but it definitely workable if you were reluctant to open your door and the camera microphone is very good. in this live interaction camera session its about half a second delay for us- definitely usable. They also have geo fencing which is pretty cool when we both leave it activates.

Reliability: this was replacing an older onvir based system of ip cameras which was buggy on its best day. the Eufy system has been flawless in this regard, 100% reliable. we even had a extremely rare power cut, the base unit just reconnected to everything automatically. Also because it stores the files locally there is none of the hidden monthly cloud charges involved . also if there was activity you need to record you can pull that to your phone.

Overall: have to say, we are super impressed. their app works and looks good also btw, the interface to apple phones is also pretty easy (you can use apple own home setup to take camera feeds). The mark i try to use on products like this is 'would i buy it again?' the answer to this is a resounding yes, hence the 5 stars. Sure its got the odd white lie in the marketing (dont they all?) but i am willing to ignore that for the many many other benefits. So if you were on the fence on this, i would say if you were to jump to this, you are very unlikely to regret it.

Jan 4th EDIT
2nd attempt, last edit bombed out and it was worded way way better than this edit ;)
So happy New Year all. Firstly the cameras are still on one pip on the battery icon. That is pretty darn impressive to me. I will let them run out or at least red line before charging and if there is any further info i will add here. It is worth noting that the front and rear cameras are both on one pip even though the front would be used more. There is some educated guesses you could make here on how the backend system works but it would be speculation. I suspect the batteries will age in a bit as they cycle through their lifespan but at the moment -- way way better than i expected originally.

Motion detection: this is still tripped by the cat (system configured to people recognition). she had changed her schedule a bit so there is that.

Notification time: one thing i thought i should add. i mentioned about it took the length of an average driveway before my phone pinged. I had a think about this and my phone is going through a whole series of 'things' as i walk towards the door, not least of which is trying to connect to wifi. Im sure that is delaying the notifications by a small amount.

Final Thoughts: you know whats best about this? it just works. its now just part of our house, like a tv or fridge or your mobile device. it just works. i have not had to login to reboot, tweak, update, modify, or worst of all (and we have all done this) had to explain to family members how whats happening is a feature not a bug (onvir wifi cameras im looking at you). This system just works and honestly much and all as i love fidgeting with IT stuff, there is something really refreshing about software and hardware like this that just does what it says on the tin. Could it be better, yes but its the ole 80/20 rule now for Eufy i suspect where they have all of the basics done right now comes all the bells and whistles and trinkets...nice to have but not critical. So we would still buy this again. Very impressed with it resilience (no reboots, no resets etc). Its what we wanted here, something that is 'set and forget'. Pretty sure we all want that or if not all, then the vast majority of people want. of you are a bit of a security camera expert and love doing the latest mods, then this is probably not for you. of you want something that just works; well all we can say is (as per the first review of this), would we rebuy?-- yep we definitely would.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 29 December 2022
I ordered the Eufycam 2c security camera kit after seeing some reviews. I previously had a Swann wireless camera that had been good, but recently had started playing up with motion detection. I went for this one because there was a certain amount of control of where detection would be scanned, done by drawing squared/rectangle shapes. This is a very basic way of setting up activity zones, but anything is better than nothing.

The packaging of the product was very good, as shown in the pictures, all packed securely. You get the homebase 2, which is basically a central storage unit and hub for the cameras. I believe up to 16 cameras can be setup on a homebase, 2 cameras with fittings, a power adapter/ethernet cable for the homebase and a small manual.

I downloaded the app and after I’d got one of the cameras setup and working, I then started to tweak the settings in the phone app for the camera. The homebase and cameras were very easy to setup using the very good downloadable app.

All seemed to be going well until I then stopped getting motion detections/notifications. I had already contacted the online support as I couldn’t find the activity zones anywhere and was directed to the right place to do it. The instructions were not that helpful in getting this feature setup. I was getting no detection at all. I contacted the support by phone and to be honest it was a waste of time, I had better response using the online chat.

I gave up with the telephone support, and decided to reset all the settings including the activity zones. The camera eventually started detecting again. I then proceeded to setup the zones once again and I got it to start working, which was a relief. I got the camera back up on the wall (I had taken it down to reset everything) and fine tuned the activity zones. Touch wood I have had good detection from the camera since, and the zones seem to be behaving. I intend to set the other one up soon. The image quality from the cameras is very good. Its 1080p, so not going to be amazing, but it is very clear and sharp and serves its purpose. The response to detection in the app is good and the app works well.

In summary, the first impressions were good. Setup was simple and painless, and app worked well. But initial motion detection performance and first use was very nearly the end of my association with Eufy. Online Chat Support was good, but the phone support was not good at all and wanted me to organise support using emails and I very nearly said enough is enough and sent it back, but I persevered and got the camera back to a point where it was working well. If I can setup the second camera and have the same performance and reliability that I have currently, I will be happy.

Even with the initial problems, I am glad I didn’t give up, and I now see the quality of the product and I am pleased with my purchase. Eufy, please sort out your phone support…..The product is good, but unfair or not, I have given only 4 stars because of the phone support. Sorry Eufy...

Update: 20 days on from installing the Eufycam 2c kit. I am still happy with this camera system, but have to say that the advertised 180 battery life is very optimistic. After 20 days of use and 278 motion recordings, I am down to 68% battery. A bit disappointed with this. I have got a solar panel for it, so will install that and report back how it did.
Appended update: I have now installed the solar panel and that is helping to maintain battery life. (See below for a further update)

Update 2: Sorry for these updates, but only getting these issues. After using these cameras for quite a while now. I still like the cameras, but am finding the motion detection to be extremely hit and miss. I did have activity zones setup, but I was very rarely receiving notifications after first setting them up. After getting initial detections, it stopped doing it. Phone support are pretty useless and after taking off the Activity zones, it started working again. So I assumed there was a firmware issue, but my cameras are up to date. I literally get loads of notifications when no AZs are setup or none. I will persist, and have to see if there is a solution or if I've got a dud set of cameras. I have had to reduce the star rating because of these issues.

We have been using this now for about a month. So here is our thoughts on this product.

Simon Says
5.0 out of 5 stars Home security with no monthly fee
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 19 March 2023

I was attracted to this system due to it not requiring a monthly fee or cloud storage.

The downside - is a delay if wanting to speak over it’s built in speaker and microphone. The signal has to go to a small hard drive attached to your router and this causes some delay in speaking and answering to any visitor at your door.

The up side - The cameras are easy to fit. The hard drive plugs into your home router and the camera synchronisation was easy to do. The phone / tablet app is easy to use and you have a record of events potentially over a few months. All data is stored on the hard drive in your home not in the cloud, so personal data concerns are reduced with this system.

I have used the system now for a month and it has proven reliable and alerts are forwarded swiftly via the app in a matter of seconds of an event. You can build on the system with additional cameras if you chose to do making it very flexible.

I liked the personal data protection aspect of this system and the fact no monthly fee is payable. Fees can add up over time and render your system inoperative if you ever decided to stop paying In essence a subscription equals renting and I prefer to own outright. The camera image is clear and sharp and build quality is to a high standard.

Overall a 9 out of 10 with only the conversation delay a small downside far outweighed by all other factors noted above.

I am a happy customer.

Very easy setup and connected to the Synology NAS with no problems.

Slight lag on the camera motion detection but nothing of concern.

I like the scheduling element in the app so can have different profiles for home vs away.

Only complaint is lack of anti theft fitting but it's mounted high enough so someone will have to go through a lot of trouble to steal it.

ANOTHER EDIT:
After settling on the final location for the camera at the front of the house (in the porchway) and despite the huge number of "events filtered by AI" which are basically camera wake-ups that were subsequently determined to be non-events (false alarms, like movement that was outside of the area I'd defined in the app) I've just brought the camera inside for a recharge. It lasted 5 and a half months - which I think is impressive!

I'm keeping the review at 4 stars because I still occasionally get people at the front door without triggering the camera, but it's infrequent enough for me to be happy with these cameras' performance. (it must be something like 1-in-40 times)

EDIT:
I've had these around 3 months now so here's an update.

I had to move the driveway camera so it's in my porch looking out at the driveway, so that the PIR wasn't being triggered by people walking along the pavement. For a while I was still getting false alarms, but then they stopped. I don't know if it was a firmware update that did it - I *think* so, it looks like the motion-zones are now being honoured properly... take a look at the screenshot from the app - nearly 2000 events detected and filtered out.
But all of these filtered events mean that the camera is still continuously waking up and sending data to the "hub" for analysis - is that killing the battery life? Well, incredibly (again see the screenshot) it looks like I am indeed on for 6 months runtime from a single charge. Which is pretty impressive.

So I'm upgrading this review to 4 stars - though there's still a few things to bear in mind:
* The PIR - PIR sensors aren't very good at detecting things moving directly towards them from directly in front, so you'll still need to make sure you angle the camera's field of view so that any likely foot traffic passes across it's view rather than moving directly towards it. I still occasionally get a missed alert from my driveway because of this.
* Geofencing - allows the cameras to switch between configurations when your phone is away from home (we have driveway always active, with backyard only active when we're out). It's a little slow to return into "Home" mode, but that's a minor gripe.

Finally, 2 suggestions for Eufy (if they read these reviews):
* Snooze - you can tell a camera to stop detecting for 30 minutes or upto a few hours, which is useful if there's some continuous activity on your driveway.
This is handy but guessing how long you want to snooze for isn't easy! How about an option to snooze until a time where there's been no motion detected for X minutes?
* How about producing an "always on" mains powered camera? I know Eufy's "thing" is batteries (being owned by Anker), but the option of adding a camera that continuously records would be very useful (Infact I've now bought a standalone wifi camera and have used Eufycam's RTSP support to integrate the lot using Zoneminder on Linux - but that's a whole other story).

ORIGINAL REVIEW:
Loved the idea of these cameras, and the kit looks and feels well designed.
However... because of how these work, they're useless to me.

Why? The cameras basically spend most of their time asleep, and a passive infrared sensor - a PIR like an outdoor motion sensor floodlight - wakes them up when it detects heat-based movement. Once the camera's awake, it looks for motion in the "zones" that you can define (which is overlayed onto the image that the camera sees). If the motion was in that zone then it sends the alert and records the video. Great, right?

Unfortunately for me, this doesn't work well when you've got a short driveway. With the cameras mounted at the front of the house and with 4 or 5 metres between the house and pavement, the cameras were initially waking up all the time and then 10% of the time sending an alert - even though the motion was outside the zone that I had defined. The other 90% of the time it was correctly doing nothing - but, those wakeups cost me 5% of the battery in a single day! That would give me maybe 3 weeks of battery life instead of 6 months.

Turning down the PIR sensitivity is the only way to tune this. However for me, anything other that the minimum setting (number 1) still causes pedestrians to trigger the camera. But with the minimum setting, I now only have a 50/50 chance that someone walking up to my front door actually triggers the camera.

I've tried angling the cameras in different ways (PIRs aren't very good at detecting things moving directly towards them, they prefer things that cut-across their field of view) but had no luck.

So it seems these cameras are ideal for areas like alleyways and backyards, where you're normally not expecting much movement. But if you have a *short* driveway/backyard/frontyard with motion beyond the perimeter then you're looking at false alarms or massively reduced battery life.

I'm going to continue to play with settings and angles for the next few days but it's looking very likely I'll be returning these to Amazon (I'll update the review with the outcome)

4.0 out of 5 stars Be prepared for a lot of fiddling if you have a short driveway
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 16 June 2020

2.0 out of 5 stars I was disappointed. There are a few issues.

So I had high hopes for this, but was disappointed beyond belief. Let’s start with unboxing. The packaging has been thought through. I was very well presented and the items well packaged to avoid damage. But the first issue I had was the mounts for the cameras. They are not security mounts! There is nothing stopping anyone from walking up and just talking them, there are no security features to stop this at all, that is just unacceptable in every way! From the factory they should have a mount that at the very minimum prevent someone from just walking up and unscrewing them!

Then we have the homehub thing. It is decent and easy to set up, but I diss apple the storage. It’s only 16gb storage if I remember right, and no expandable storage, so no sd card slot! It would have cost almost nothing to add an sd card slot and allow us to have more storage! Now if you are using these cameras in a very low traffic spot, then it’s no issue, but I’d like me you live on a main road, I had to clear the storage every 3 days! Now you could set up motion zones to help with this, but these cameras were for watching my car! And I will add that you can have a lot of cameras on the one hub, so if you do then the storage will fill up so fast. It needs expandable storage!

Now the cameras themselves. It really does depend on your use case. So my house is about 5 meters away from her road, but I have a canopy over my door so the cameras were actually about 3 meters away from the road. But I was not able to make out registration plates of cars l! I couldn’t even make out the street sign next to my house, the sign is about 5m away! Now I can understand some people saying that I’m expecting too much, but the street sign is motionless, I should be able to make it out. I will include an image and you will see what I mean. So if someone did hit my car, there was no way I would be able to get his registration, only a image of the car and a decent description. Given that the police really don’t care, if I can’t get the reg, then there is no point. Even if a person walked up and keyed the car, I’m not sure if there would enough detail in the image to identify them. And the second you zoom in on the image, it is even worse. You basically cannot zoom as you loose all the detail instantly. Now again maybe you will all say I’m asking too much, but these cameras are expensive. And To be clear, I’m referring to the saved recording from cameras, I’m not using live view for my conclusions, as the recordings have the best image the camera can offer. I could buy a wireless up camera from Amazon for about £40 each. That would have he same image quality, maybe even better! So for the price, these are not good enough.

Then the battery life, again my scenario is on a main road, I had to take the cameras down and recharge them every 5 days. Again lots of traffic so they were always in use. Now if you had these in a low traffic area, they would last a lot longer. But my issue relates to the rubbish mounts they give you. Because they are not security mounts, you have to mount them somewhere hard to get to or they will get stolen. So when you have to take them down to charge them, it’s a pain. So for me, a to get the ladders out every 5 days to charge them! And it take a few hours to charge them, so it’s a pain. You can add solar panels and I did, and they did help a lot. But only when it’s not cloudy outside, and I live in England so… and in the winter it would be worse. So for a high traffic area like mine, you need a wired power source to keep them running. And there is no options for that in this system.

So let’s conclude. These cameras are not worth the money. They can be stolen easily as the mounts have no security features. The image quality is not good enough to identify cars and people even at 3 meters away. The hub has no expandable storage! The battery life could be okay, but in my case is not at all.

There are better cameras systems out there.l, or similar at batter prices. This system lacks in many areas, and there are no indications this will change. I have seen forum posts on eufys forums of people complaining about the security mounts and eufy themselves have no commented on it at all. Even worse, members pointed out fatal security flaws where if someone did get one of the cameras, they can get the app and pair with the hub, then delete the footage, that is discussing. A true fatal flaw, but again eufy have not commented on this. Do not get this system!

This review is about the eufy security eufyCam 2C Security Camera Outdoor, Home Security Camera Systems which we’ve had for well over a year now (along with a couple of Amazon Blink cameras) so I think that we’re now well equipped to judge their performance.

Very easy system to set up after you DL the app. You can also adjust the length of the video clips which in turn are very good and sharp. They are encrypted within the app so if you wish to keep any video for later then each and every one will require a individual download from the app onto your fone or ipad etc. Night videos are enhanced so lighting is not a problem providing you have a different light source around somewhere handy to the camera. Other than that its a murky black n white which in turn can also be lightened by switching on the cameras own ‘spotlight’, somewhat limited but can be effective(ish). According to traffic we have found that the camera batteries require quite regular re-charging and for that there is a reason!

I think that the ‘detection zones’ are a nonsense as is the ‘human detection technology’, which fails on all our 7 cameras on a regular basis. If you have tree branches moving, flowers or bushes etc that are blown by the wind, then however you set the detection zone it still triggers and records. Even the sun will trigger the video as will moving shadows ie: wind moving a tree branch and so on. Evening moths and spiders are a constant menace. No wind and moderate sunshine are ideal conditions or better still mount them indoors where you can control the conditions. Problem here is that these cameras do not record through glass so that is probably defeating the main purpose ! The detection zone is a gimmick IMO. There is a blacked out privacy zone setting which can be very effective but any video or photo will appear with the said black zone evident. As for ‘human detection technology’ that too is suspect. Initially we did laugh when when our cameras are clicking in identifying a cat or a fox as a human form...!! On several occasions blackbirds feeding on the ground have been identified for the same reason... well come on! After a while such amusement turns to annoyance because of coarse the batteries are running down all the while and then have to be recharged... again !!! No defiantly not precise this ‘human detection technology’. To be fair you can set the sensitivity but we’ve found anything below 5 and you might as well turn the camera off. The speech aspect of the cameras we don’t use at all as we find it all to garbled to either speak or hear. Maybe its our Wi-fi !!?

So to conclude the cameras do indeed give a sense of security of that there is no doubt at all. It takes a short while (as does the Blink cameras) for any video to come through to the app which is a common complaint for these DIY type Wi-fi systems. I would recommend the product but if you are to buy then simply do not expect to much. A relative has a wired camera system which surpasses’s anything that this Wi-fi system can achieve. All in all its a very limited and basic system which emphasises to much of what it can do on tests that I assume where carried out by the Manufacturer under pristine conditions. All IMHO of course.

Quality bit of kit these cameras. Saw a few reviews saying that setting these up and connecting them were a bit of trouble but it couldn't be more straight forward. Very easy setup, installation instructions were clear and connections were almost instant. I wasn't too keen on the Ring monthly subscription which is why I chose these. These ones I believe are more of the base models and you can get higher quality (2k) cameras but we didn't need anything overly expensive. These are still 1080p quality and are more than good enough for general security! After purchasing the cameras I found they sell silicone cases. Little expensive for what they are but a cool idea and protects the main body (Can be seen in the pics).

Can't make any comments on battery life as they were only received and installed less than a week ago but I've heard good things. Highly recommended this company and their products!
