I have several of these bulbs. I wanted to modernise the house a bit, and they have worked very well for a while. One of them has stopped linking to the wifi. The company's app is very useful for contacting them, however, when it comes to replacing the defective product they refer me to the shop where I bought it, in this case AMAZON, which is impossible because there is no way to contact them to explain the problem and there is no option anywhere to do so from the order. So I have ANOTHER product bought on Amazon which is impossible to enforce the warranty. And it is not the first time this has happened to me.

I have 3 Tapo cameras and 2 bulbs which I control through the free app. This works well as a standard bulb but the app glitches alot meaning I no longer use the app to control them. I have set them to be less bright than average, on at 40%.

This is nowy fifth Tapo device, and once you set up the first, all others take seconds to set up in the app.
Alexa set up is immediate and works well.
Google seems to be trickier and flakier, once set up with Google you need to go into Google home, select the d vice again, and then it is set up, not just when you add it to Google in the TAPO app.
I cannot speak to the usage time as yet as I have only had my Tapo devices for a couple of months for the old st, however if I find any issues I will update this review.

Tips if this is your first TAPO device:

1: download the app first, before turning anything on, plugging anything in.

2: Turn " location" on your phone on, the app asks like it is an option but the software cannot "pair" the device without location, don't ask me why, makes no sense to me either, I have already written to the developers to ask them to fix this but had no reply as yet.

3: if you are adding to Alexa, simply follow the in app instructions.
If you are adding to Google ( so you can say ok Google , Turn living room lights off) then follow the in app instructions, and then when set up is completed, go to the Google home app on your phone, and add the device there too, otherwise Google won't find it/ them.

4: leave your wall switch on, because it's only function now is to power the device, the wall switch will not turn the lights on any more, use Alexa/ Google commands or the app on your phone. If you switch the wall switch off, Google/ Alexa and the app will not be able to turn the lights on.
I have been reassured by the manufacturer that when Google/ Alexa or the app turn the lights off, they are no longer drawing power, so leaving the wall switch on will not cost you money if you told the light to be off.

Hope that makes sense.

I bought this as a direct replacement for an existing LED bulb in an outside, non PIR carriage lamp. I can now turn it on and off with either the Tapo app or with Alexa when coming home in the dark. The brightness can also be adjusted with the app and Alexa.

Set up was very simple and it connected with Alexa quickly and has been perfectly reliable so far.

Although I haven't yet set any routines up yet it is possible to have the bulb turn on and off automatically to schedules and potentially by Alexa routine connected to my video doorbell.

Does the job I wanted if for perfectly well.

I had generic cheap smart plugs that started off great but the support for the product and linked apps was sadly lacking hence every time there was an update to the app or product software trouble ensues. Not so with Tapo products. I have slowly worked my way round replacing the plugs and now bulbs with their items as they're rock solid and not much more to buy than the ones they're replacing. Installed the bulb and had it linked and working within 5 minutes. BRAVO 👏🏼

I've had a few of these Tapo bulbs since around November 2021, so this review is written 9 months or so in.

Overall I'd say it's a pretty decent product, the dimmability is neat, I have one fitted into a low hanging light fitting that sits above the dining table, so dimming to a softer brightness is good for mood setting.

I've also made extensive use of the "away" feature which randomly turns on the lights at different times in the night so it looks like someone is in.

My only criticism is the bulbs are only operatable through the Tapo app and require internet connectivity, this means you're wholly dependent on TP-link keeping the servers up. Additionally you cannot really integrate them with Home Assistant without jumping through hoops. The bulbs cannot be flashed with tasmota either, so if you're planning on getting deeply involved in smart home/home assistant tech you're probably going to end up replacing these bulbs for more flexible options anyway....

These are enthusiast/home automation concerns though I think for most people they're fine.
