4.0 out of 5 starsGood, fast, chunkier than pro, paid extras not very pro
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 2 April 2023
Summary: good but lacking free pro features, Amazon data harvesting, and a little chunky.

This is my 3rd eero. Upgrading a network of eero pro gen 2 (gateway) and eero. Only upgraded as now have fiber 1gig connection up and down, which I mostly use wired so the old pro was fine, but wanted to take advantage of faster WiFi speed.

New setup is this Eero pro 6 (gateway) plus the original two.

Pretty easy to add and swap gateway - just add it in the app, unplug the gateway device and plug it into the same cables - eero detects it’s now the gateway and sorts it all out in couple minutes. Also it’s really good all generations of eero devices work well together.

Pretty impressive speed wise. Not much improvement overall as the old pro could already run fine at gigabit over wired and I have them all Ethernet backhaul , but it can now harness almost 1gig speed on WiFi also (80-90 MB/sec on iPhone, versus 50-60MB/sec on the old pro). Two devices cover most of my house so the third unit may be redundant and might remove as was fine without it previously.

The app is great but because it’s Amazon and you cant setup or configure without an internet connected Amazon account, have removed one star. That’s not very pro and also Amazon have admitted they mine a lot of data about your household devices and useage etc which you have zero control over. Also any vaguely pro features are paid extras whereas they are provided free by most competitors at this level. So that’s one star deducted. Seems unfair to deduct more for that even though I want to, because the units just work so well for me otherwise.

The app is pretty good and provides a fair amount of basic information, even though if you hit the wrong place you get nagware about subscription services.

I also like that you can turn Off the status lights but it still glows red if there’s an error which happened once in the last year when my internet was down.

The downside of pro 6 vs pro - it’s physically quite a bit bigger and chunkier and less attractive. The pro was smaller and just sort of blended in, this is a big lump. But again probably better than most other similar devices out there in that respect. It runs hotter too. Also they come with quite short power leads and mould the plugs on one end so you can’t just swap for longer cables even though they’re usbc. It restricts where you can place them which is pretty silly, and would be a cause of more environmental waste and landfill. The packaging was reasonably good and no plastic.
An extra gigabit port or two would be useful, especially on pro gateway devices - you use up both just to get them on your network and it’s often handy to have spare - my house is wired but still there’s not always a socket close to where you need and the devices use up one or two.

All in all am pretty pleased but bought in sale price at around £100. It’s not worth full retail considering the additional subscription fees for anything above a very basic tool set. Also it was only a fraction more than the 6 (non pro) so makes sense for the extra power and bands.

Time will tell if it’s as reliable as my previous pro which rarely had an issue.

3.0 out of 5 starsOkay upgrade, but can be unreliable.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 10 April 2023
Purchased to replace a Virgin Media Hub 3(500mbps connection), which in an old tenement building really struggled to get good Wi-Fi outside of the living-room it was located in. Struggled with regular work from home video call cutouts, and mobile devices dropping wi-fi signal in any rooms that were more than 1 wall away from the Virgin router.

Is the Eero better, yes, but I did expect a bit more. In the same room as the router, Virgin could pull 325-380mbps over wifi to Apple devices and game consoles. The Eero can pull 420-480mbps. In spots of the flat that I got medium/low Wi-Fi coverage in, 50-100mbps but occasional dropped connection with Virgin, the Eero can do 200-350mbps. However in the further reaches of the flat(2 walls or more) where Virgin would give 5-10mbps or drop most times, I can get 80-200mbps with only very occasional drops.
So for sure improvements, and you don't have to think is your device connected to Wi-Fi or not when in the flat. But I did expect slightly more range or more speed stability in the outer reaches of the flat for the price I paid (£142) but maybe my expectations were too high.

I will say as some others have noted, speeds do steady out only after 24-48h of having the Eero setup. The first day speeds were poor, and not vastly different to the Virgin Hub, but after a day they were much better/what they are not, and noted above.

My Eero did suddenly die however only a week after setup. No power to the device and the LED would not come back on. I work in IT so decided to try another power supply(A spare Apple one with the same wattage) and the Eero did come back to life with the new power supply. I was at home when the eero died, and there were no power cuts, electrical issues, or other devices or power strips in use that suffered any issue. Never had a power supply fail on any electrical device of mine, very odd to have it happen only a week into use.
Eero support was very helpful but getting a new power supply shipped to me has taken ages/still not received it. I had to exchange the eero through amazon ultimately, but let's see how long the power supply and eero will last. Would hope to get at least 5+ years.

I bought a smart TV for my bedroom which kept buffering. Bought these and Ethernet connected them to router and TV. No difference at all in speeds but slightly less buffering.

Took a lot of setting up - so be patient when you do that if you are not tech savvy.

App is good. Tells you which devices are connected although it takes a bit of detective work to find out which device is which as you have to input that yourself. It doesn’t detect the device name so you have to work that out.

Looks great. Works ok. Fiddly set up.

I have 3 at home yes a bit pricy but worth it! Why? Because if you connect it via ethernet cable it will be equal to a cable speed straight out of the main box. There will be loss of roughly 50-100mb if we talking 1gb internet speed. But you don't need to buy miles of cable and drill holes in house so I would consider this as a small loss. Internet speeds are very stable. Do not buy to many of them it will cost wireless collision and you will get lower speeds. My recommendation 1 for each floor. And 1 extra for the Office if you have one.

Ok product, easy to set up, really disappointed there is only one network socket, therefore you need a switch, hub or similar. Why one outlet when most routers have 4.
WIFI is consistent but at one metre away it drops 30%.

my ISP provided me with a TPlink Archer C80 which served me well till i spilled a drink in it so i figured id treat myself to something half decent with wifi 6. setup was fine and all, the app is nice.

however the signal is distinctly worse throughout the house, speeds are not significantly improved despite moving from wifi5 to wifi6 and while i knew this was the case on getting it there are only 2 ethernet ports, id have been willing to make that compromise for a significantly better wifi experience but that just isnt what im getting

Honestly a half decent TPlink, Dlink or even Netgear will likely cost less, give better performance and offer more ethernet ports as a bonus all while saving money. the only reason i see to go for this is if you really do need the mesh setup (although this can easily be achieved in other ways)

bottom line, for the price im not impressed

I am not very techy and took ages trying to decide what bit of router kit to buy, i actually bought these because I liked the look of them and got lucky.
Speed on my BT fftp connection went from a shaky 80mbs to 860mbs average peaking at 1.1gbs
Took about an hour to set up, couldn't get the Bluetooth connection with phone initially, but no problems or down time since.
Not cheap but they do what they say on the tin.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fast reliable mesh network built using on WIFI 6, but extensive nagware/paywall blocker
Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 19 January 2023
Configuration: 1 unit (up to 190 m²)Verified Purchase
I first bought the 3 pack for around £350 in the summer 2022 sale Amazon has prime day I think it's called. Then I needed another (4th) device to install in my garage to add to the network because I am modernizing it and the signal from the house did not reach the garage. The garage is about 12 metres from the house. So I bought a 4th eero in the black Friday sale for around £110 normally an eye wateringly expensive ~£220 each!

Do note this is a mesh network, it cannot act as a modem, you still need a modem to connect to your ISP - at least with the 6+ units I have.

So far so good. The good things about this device:

- Easy to install and setup
- Simple control from the eero app, you can control everything, network updates, adding new devices, viewing and managing who is connected, basic level of bandwidth management - more on this later
- You have a simple indicator that tells you if the device has outbound internet connectivity, simple but very effective. Red means no connectivity, white means connected so a quick glance determines if there is any problems or not. If installed in the bedroom you can turn this lamp off entirely
- There is a single RJ45 socket on the back on the primary device, they call this generally the gateway. But it's possible to have more with the RJ45 ports if you buy additional units, why they didn't just include RJ45 ports on every device is a mystery
- It has a zigbee gateway built into it for low-powered devices like temp sensors, humidity sensors etc. this is an awesome addition. I have not yet used this I hope it works with out the paywall feature (more on this in the later section)
- The network backup feature is good, this allows eero to use another line via WIFI should your primary ISP go down/fail. This is behind the paywall feature though! :(

The cons or not so good stuff hence the 2 stars

Given I have spent close to £550 for 4 eero devices, normally this would have been around £800, why then are so many features locked down/inaccessible?? If you want to do any level of basic management on your network, for example look at the traffic for last week, or see what your kids have been up to, you get nagware in the app. The app will constantly ask you to subscribe to the eero plus service at a cost of £99 per year subscription. It doesn't mention this on the listing for the unit. This should have been absolutely clear if it was I would have chosen a Netgear. So instead I can get an aggregate level of information from my modem - which is free! lol So this really lets the device down imo pure greed locking out features after a customer has spent considerable ££ on it.

Other things you can't do without eero plus, ad blocking, content filters, monthly data reports so I can see what my kids have been up to, blocked apps etc. Some of these features I have enabled at the modem level but this is complex to manage because I have to identify a connected device by MAC address, this is not practical.

Shame on Amazon, this is nothing short of greed, many of these features I have with my modem why have a paywall ??

So until they change this I would recommend looking elsewhere if you want a mesh network.

Amazon eero Pro 6 tri-band mesh Wi-Fi 6 system | with built-in ZigBee smart home hub | 1 unit

I just upgraded my internet from ADSL to FTTP, so my usual 39MBs download speeds were increased to 520Mbs, a crazy increase but my ISP only supplied one router, the Eero Pro 6 which isn't a problem for most households as this is a powerful dude. My router is positioned in the hallway and I'm enjoying super fast speeds downstairs and on the 1st floor, unfortunately, my house has two floors and when I ventured to the top floor my WiFi signal was intermittent if at all working.

MY options were limited, I could've run an ethernet cable from my switch, positioned next to the router, all the way to the 2nd floor and then used some cheap WiFi extender but I'd loose the benefits of the Eero abilities doing this. So I opted to buy another Eero Pro 6 and I was very shocked at how much they cost, over £200! In any case, I needed reliable WiFi so purchased the thing and due to the fact it has 2 ethernet sockets I can connect another switch up and attach all my non-WiFi devices as I have an office positioned on the top floor.

This arrives in a fancy box and so it should for the price of the thing. I had already downloaded the Eero App for use with the main router. I simply positioned the Eero on my desk, plugged it in and loaded up the App. The procedure for connecting this to my existing network was as follows:

⚙️1. Tap on 'Add Eero Device'
⚙️2. Once found, name the Eero device, I called it 'Office'
⚙️3. App updates the software in the Eero
⚙️4. The blue LED light on the Eero turns to white
⚙️5. Job done, time to make a nice coffee.

Now that's very easy indeed, I was expecting the App to say that the Eero was too far away from my main router because my mobile and tablet can't get a signal in the office.

I proceeded to do a speed test and achieved 210Mbs download and 68Mbs upload. That's very fast considering my devices couldn't pick up any WiFi initially.

I've now attached the Eero to a switch and every device is ticking over very nicely.

So obviously this Eero not only acts as a router for FTTP but also extends the WiFi signal to all other Eero devices. I'm thinking of connecting my office Eero directly to the switch in the hallway with an ethernet cable now which in theory would give me near enough the 500Mbs download speeds but this isn't something I shall do in a hurry because 210MBs is quite sufficient for my needs.

What I have noticed is that when I go upstairs, my WiFi signal strength bar starts dropping slowly then as I'm about to go to the 2nd floor the signal goes straight back to full strength, hence the mesh system is working just fine.

Overall, a good product and excellent App but it's just so darn expensive.

Highly recommended.
